100 Year Unbeaten Record broken at Southampton F.C. 34 Games In Total Unbeaten Using The Sweat &
Courage System.
“Thank You For Unleashing Me!”
Russel Martin
The Sweat & Courage Method was employed by Manager Russel Martin at Swansea City F.C. and Southampton F.C. Russel’s team had won 3 games in 18 at Swansea when he decided to take take on the Sweat & Courage System on February 1st 2023.
His team ended the season on a 9 match unbeaten run going from just above the relegation zone to one point outside the play-offs. This secured Martin a move to Southampton F.C. who had just been relegated from the Premier League with a remit of an immediate return to the top flight.
By the time Southampton brought the Sweat & Courage system into support Russel Martin on September 20th 2024, the team had lost 4 matches in a row and faced league leaders, Leeds United F.C. at home on the saturday.
There was much media noise about Martin being on the brink of losing his job, if 4 losses in a row became 5. Southampton blew Leeds United away in a first half display that hadn’t been witnessed all season, scoring 3 goals in the opening 30 minutes of the game.
Southampton then went on a 100 year record-breaking 25 game unbeaten run, which led to promotion back to The Premier League; playing a brand of football which is rarely seen at any level.
ADD STATS (Barcelona comparison)
Southampton decided not to renew the consultancy with Sweat & Courage leading into the season 2024/2025 back in the Premier League. 4 months into the season, Russel Martin lost his job at Southampton after 1 win in 16 matches.

Read on to discover the debilitating fears Phil overcame to produce a courageous performance after 2 years out injured and being told he would never play for the club again. Fears that, he says, many Pro players face, yet so few address head-on.
“I worked tirelessly with (Sweat & Courage).... We had a lot of sessions online and together (in person). We spoke about past problems and issues and why I felt like that. Where I went wrong.
How to have more self-respect.
For me, it was the fear of the unknown...of not knowing what’s going to happen next week. Of not knowing whether I’m gonna come back (after injury)... The fear of not knowing whether I’m gonna be able to get another job....
The fear of disappointing my family and friends.... I provide for them and that was the fear.. of not being able to do that for them... I was fearing everything. Absolutely everything. It caused the biggest problem in my life, not just in Football. Like we always talk about. Fearing of getting the ball. Fear of giving the ball away. The fear of passing it back to your goalkeeper and somebody fucking nipping in and fucking scoring.”
Fear of everything.
“There are players that are struggling, they need help but it’s (a case of) how do you have that first interaction and conversation? Players will say “I don’t need help. I’m fine.” But they’re not because I can (now) see right through them.”
